Premier League match time dawns at Bloomfield Road, as Blackpool get set to host Aston Villa on Saturday, February 12, in match week 26.
Saturday’s game will be the second meeting of a double-leg contest; the first, played at Villa Park on November 10, 2010, was won 3-2 by the hosts. Downing put Villa ahead on 28 minutes and Harewood struck back for the Seasiders at the break. Villa regained the lead through Delfouneso on the hour, and when Campbell equalised with three minutes of regulation time to go, Tangerines looked as though they might salvage a point from the game. But Collins’ strike two minutes later meant that Villa had the last laugh in an enthralling contest.
Blackpool’s exploits in their debut season are 롤 대리 already the stuff of legend. And on the day, Ian Holloway’s charges caused panic in the Villa back-line. For Villa, dowmng had an outstanding game with a goal and an assist to show for his effort.
Blackpool ruled the midfield and owned the first half. Villa stamped their authority on the second and Bannan in particular was impressive.
Delfouneso’s header found Blackpool’s net on 55 minutes but was ruled out as Delfouneso was held guilty of pushing Keinan. But the player made amends 5 minutes later by regaining the lead for Villa.
Post-game talk centred around the 10 changes that Ian Holloway had made to his side, presumably to rest his best players for the next week’s match with West Ham. The possibility of Holloway being fined for it was considered moot given that Wolves’ manager McCarthy had attracted a fine of 25,000 Euros for doing the same thing last year in his side’s game against Manchester United.
But considering how close Blackpool came to salavaging a point from the game with Villa, Holloway would have had some misgivings about the changes he made.
Head to head, Villa have won the only league game played between the sides.
In their last 10 games, the Seasiders have won 3, drawn one and lost the remaining 6; Villa have won and drawn 3 each of their last 10, while losing the remaining 6. Blackpool have won 3 of 11 home games, while losing 6 and drawing the remaining 2; Villa have won 2, lost 8 and drawn 3 of their 13 away games, this season.
In match week 25, Blackpool lost 5-3 away at Everton, while Villa drew 2-2 at home against Fulham.
On current form, Villa should edge this one.
Blackpool had the following men in their starting eleven against Everton: Rachubka, Eardley, Evatt, Baptiste, Carney, Puncheon, Vaughan, Adam, Grandin, Campbell and Beattie. Harewood, Edwards and Southern played as substitutes.
